There is a growing debate about soy vs paraffin waxes.

Paraffin may contain toxins. The claim is that paraffin can contain all or some of the following chemicals, Acetone, Benzene, Trichlorofluoromethane, Carbon Disulfide, 2-Butanone, Trichloroethane, Trichloroethene, Carbon Tetrachloride, Tetrachloroethene, Toluene, Chlorobenzene, Ethylbenzene, Styrene, Xylene, Phenol, Cresol, Cyclopentene and Lead.

We have searched for proof of this claim and we have not been able to support this. We reviewed material datasheets and have not found any evidence that paraffin is dangerous to your health.

We have always taken great pride in our truth in advertising, truth in labelling and ingredient resource information. We will state the facts as we know them today.

It is true that paraffin is a by-product from refining oil. However, paraffin is used in the food and cosmetic industry and there is no support that it contains toxins. Soy is a natural vegetable wax, but soy is treated to convert it into a useable candle wax. When you add fragrances and coloring it is no longer a natural product. The truth in advertising law states that soy candle companies are not allowed to claim that their candles are "all natural". We have never made that claim.

Why do we offer soy candles? We prefer the way soy wax burns. We have used paraffin for years and as soon as we bought our first soy candle, we were hooked. We prefer soy candles in containers, but we may offer a paraffin blend some day, especially for pillars. Our wax for soy candles is purchased in the USA and we therefore support American farmers. Our soy is purchased in Kentucky. It is true that soy is a clean burning, natural resource. It is a renewable resource. It is easier to clean up soy than paraffin. We have tried both.

We believe your choice in candles comes down to preference in candlewax and it comes down to the quality product you purchase from your reputable candle maker. We do not believe a "made in China" cheap candle is a quality product and we believe that actually may be bad for your health. Some customers like regular paraffin candles and some customers like soy. If you like soy, we are so glad that you are shopping with us. Below are some articles about soy and paraffin.

The above is our personal opinion and we will update this page when new information is available.
